Mariam High School successfully held its annual Cultural Day on March 15, 2025, celebrating the theme “Unity in Diversity.” The event brought together students, staff, and parents to explore and appreciate the richness of Uganda’s cultural heritage and global traditions.
Cultural Performances:
The event featured traditional dances, poetry, music, and drama from various regions across Uganda — from Bakiga high-energy stomp dances to Baganda royal drumming. Some students even performed international showcases, including Swahili songs and Somali poetry.
Local Cuisine Corner:
Attendees enjoyed an open buffet of local dishes prepared by students and parents — featuring matooke, groundnut sauce, pilau, roasted goat, and more. The food corner was a big hit with guests!
Cultural Fashion Showcase:
The runway came alive with students in gomesi, kanzus, kitenge, and cultural accessories from across Africa. Each outfit was explained in a short cultural narrative by the participants.
Traditional Art & Craft Display:
Students displayed handmade crafts such as clay pots, beadwork, woven mats, and musical instruments — all created as part of their class projects leading up to the event.
The Cultural Day was designed to promote inclusivity, identity, and cultural education, encouraging students to embrace both their heritage and that of others.
The event deepened student appreciation for diversity, boosted school spirit, and gave young talents a platform to shine. Parents praised the school's commitment to well-rounded education beyond academics.
