Since March 2023 when the game of Lacrosse was introduced to Mariam High school, the game has been received with open hands.

This game interested many girls who liked it to the brim.

“The game of Lacrosse at Mariam High School was introduced in March 2023. There has been huge interest by the girls” Ashraf Kalungi, the games master revealed.

During their maiden competition, Mariam High School finished fourth overall (with 8 points) during the recently concluded High school super sixes championship at the Makerere University Business School (MUBS) playground in Nakawa.

The highlight in the High school super sixes tourney for Mariam High School was the bold fact that they were the only school not beaten by Nabisunsa Girls, the eventual champions.

For starters, Lacrosse was recently introduced to Mariam High School by coach Isaac Kirinya alongside other coaches as Gloria Asasira (Uganda National Team Goalie) and Godfrey Obua Lubangakene.

“Over thirty girls were lured to the sports with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement. They consistently trained on a daily basis from 5pm to 6:45pm after having their academic lessons. There was the will-power to perform.” Kirinya recounts.

On the 1^st April 2023, Mariam high school participated in their first ever Tournament (The high school super sixes) where they competed favorably against other teams from different school

“This tournament exposed the girls and opened their eyes and minds on how the game is played and so much more. We want to thank the Lacrosse fraternity for the support and encouragement they provide us with” Kirinya remarks.

For the first time, Lacrosse will be played at the national schools ball games one organized by the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), coming up in Kabale.
